Guajiran culture introduction by Felipe Izquierdo

The Guajira culture extends back hundreds of years its full of beauty and diversion and is one of Colombians most beautiful cultures. The Wayuu have developed a unique form of dance, music and art. The culture has been in a drastic change and fusion over the last four hundred years because of the colonialism but it has still fond a balance to keep their tradicion and history.

We were very privilege in experiencing their music which is very folkloric and traditional. It consisted of drums and singing in Wayuunike. we also sang to them in their language and it was an experience that nobody had ever given then.

They performed a dance for us in their traditional way. Women in veil chase a man around the fire until he falls and the women can take him.

Their art is probably the most important part it is how many Wayuu make their living and also express themselves. They create beautiful handmade hamacs and "mochilas" in their traditional way which the women practice since and early age. This is one of their sources of income and also a beautiful art that takes tons of practice and skill.

They also have many legends, their own language, and a singular representation of religion which makes the people in the guajira very interesting, important and peculiar. Their culture should truly be appreciated by everyone.
